WSL Weekend, Some big games to watch!

WSL summary Manchester City’s perfect start survived a stubborn afternoon at Charlton, although a 1–0 victory was considerably less emphatic than Spurs’ 4–0 demolition of Aston Villa. Tottenham ended the weekend second, level with Chelsea, after Alyssa Thompson’s goal gave the champions a 1–0 win over Arsenal—and left the Gunners with only five points from their first four matches. Elsewhere, Liverpool painted the Merseyside derby red with a 2–0 win over Everton, Manchester United edged West Ham 2–1 and London City beat Brighton 2–0 as Alexia Putellas opened her WSL account. Birmingham and Crystal Palace provided the weekend’s chaos allocation by sharing six goals. Seven matches, no goalless draws and enough warning signs at Arsenal to illuminate the Emirates.

Women’s Champions League summary Arsenal seemed to have Paris FC safely tucked away at 2–0, only to misplace the entire match. Paris pulled one back before the goal-kick misunderstanding handed them an 87th-minute penalty and a 2–2 draw. Chelsea were rather calmer, taking a creditable goalless draw away to OL Lyonnes, while Manchester City needed Bunny Shaw’s equaliser to earn a 1–1 draw with Real Madrid. Away from the English clubs, Barcelona treated Roma’s defence as optional furniture in a 6–0 win, PSG dispatched OH Leuven 5–0 and Bayern and Juventus both recorded 3–0 away victories. The week’s loveliest story belonged to HB Køge: beaten narrowly by Arsenal on matchday one, they responded by thrashing Servette 5–1 for their first points—and first victory—in the competition proper.
